This guide is for replacing the stop screen on the Nintendo 3DS.

Step 1

Before replacing the top screen, you have to turn off the device for safety reasons.

To do so, press the power button for a few seconds and click on "turn off".

Step 2

Grab the stylus.

Remove it.

Step 3

The stylus of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 4

Press the game cartridge.

Grab and remove it.

Step 5

Remove the two cruciform screws circled in red with a cruciform screw.

They secure the rear case.

Step 6

Use the iSesamo in order to unclip the lower case.

Remove it.

Step 7

The lower case of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 8

Use the nylon spudger in order to pry on the right side of the battery to remove it.

Step 9

The battery of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 10

Remove the 5 cruciform screws that secure the rear case.

Step 11

Use the iSesamo and remove the white rubber that cover the screws located on the top part of the rear case.

Step 12

Remove the two cruciform screws.

Step 13

Grab the complete rear case and flip it to a 90° angle.

Careful, two cables are still attached to the logic board.

Step 14

With the nylon spudger, disconnect the two L and R trigger cables.

Step 15

The rear case of your 3DS XL is now entirely removed.

Step 16

Remove the two cruciform screws circled in red.

They secure the circle pad joystick.

Step 17

Grab the circle pad joystick with a pair of tweezers and put it aside.

Don't remove it entirely, it is still attached to the logic board.

Step 18

With the nylon spudger, unlock the connector from the circle pad joystick cable.

Then grab it with a pair of tweezers and remove it.

Step 19

The circle pad joystick of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 20

With the nylon spudger, gently pry on the WiFi board and disconnect it.

Disconnect and remove the WiFi antenna with the spudger.

Step 21

With the spudger's tip, remove the microphone from its socket.

Then unlock the connector from the microphone.

Step 22

Grab the microphone and remove it.

Step 23

Unlock the connector from the touch screen with the spudger and remove the cable.

Step 24

Repeat that same step for the bottom screen connector.

Step 25

Then disconnect the speaker cable and remove it from its connector.

Step 26

Then disconnect the camera cable.

Remove it from its connector.

Step 27

Use a nylon spudger and unlock the volume cable connector.

Repeat that step for the bottom touch screen cable.

Step 28

Use the nylon spudger and remove the touch screen cable from its connector.

Step 29

With the cruciform screwdriver, remove the 10 screws circled in red that secure the logic board.

Step 30

Remove the white plastic pieces from the lower left and right hand corners with either your fingers or tweezers.

Step 31

Grab the logic board and flip it to a 90° angle.

Don't remove it just yet, it is still attached to the game console.

Step 32

Unlock the top screen cable with the spudger and remove it.

Step 33

The logic board of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 34

Grab the volume cable and remove it with a pair of tweezers.

Step 35

Gently run the iSesamo around the LCD screen in order to lift it and grab it more easily.

Step 36

The LCD screen of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 37

With a flat screwdriver, peel off the four stickers that hide the screen cruciform screws.

Remove them.

Step 38

Then insert a nylon spudger in the interstice between the screen and top case and pry to unclip it as shown on the pictures.

Step 39

Then unclip the right and top side of the case following the previous step.

Step 40

Unclip the left side.

Remove the top case.

Step 41

The top case of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 42

With a cruciform screwdriver, remove the screw circled in red that secures the right side of the speaker cable.

Step 43

Peel off the right side of the speaker cable with an iSesamo.

Step 44

Grab the camera LED cable and peel it off.

Step 45

With the iSesamo, peel off the right speaker.

Step 46

Unlock one by one the two screen cable connectors with the nylon spudger.

With the nylon spudger, remove the first screen cable.

Do the same with the second one.

Step 48

With the spudger's tip, peel off the speaker cable.

Step 49

Use the flat screwdriver and gently push to the right as shown to push in the hinge.

Remove the hinge bracket.

Step 50

Grab the top block and remove the right side.

Step 51

Very gently, remove the screen cable and separate the top block from the rest of the device.

Step 52

The top block is now separated from the rest of the game console.

Step 53

Peel off the WiFi antenna with the iSesamo.

Step 54

Keep using the iSesamo and remove the camera cable from its socket and flip it to a 90° angle.

Step 55

Grab the screen and flip it to a 90° angle.

Step 56

Grab the WiFi antenna and remove it.

Step 57

The WiFi antenna of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

Step 58

Grab the speaker cable and remove it from the top block.

Step 59

The speaker cable of your 3DS XL is no disassembled.

Step 60

Then remove the screen cable from the right hinge and remove it.

Step 61

The top screen of your Nintendo 3DS XL is now disassembled.

You can replace it with a new one if needed.
